History
During the Continuation War, many Finnish airfields were handed to Luftwaffe. Air district 'Luftgau Finnland' was formed with numerous airfields especially in Lapland and East Finland as well as behind the Soviet border. During the war, many airfields were modernized by Germans and they were soon surrounded by newly built villages of barracks. At the end of the war, retreating Germans destroyed buildings and runways, but many airfields were also transferred to Finns with little damage.
